the simple things

we did go to the park wednesday, for the record. i forgot my camera but i took a few lame photos on my phone. i have to say i was proud of myself for keeping the "appointment" even though it was 50 degrees and crazy windy. i didn't plan well, either. no heavy coat or gloves or anything. so we only stayed about 30 minutes. at least it wasn't crowded [because no one in their right mind was going to be outside with a small child].

anyway, today's appointment: have a picnic in the backyard for lunch
i know, you can barely read the list... oh well.

i can't really tell if reese enjoyed it. she was tired and starving, so she basically concentrated on the task at hand- - scarfing down her food. either way, i enjoyed myself. sun shining and birds chirping, enjoying God's creation in our humble little yard with my precious girl who is growing up way too quickly... is that a run-on?

anyway, here's the proof:

on the menu? guacamole, broccoli, grapes, dried cranberries, pretzels, apple, water...

am i so boring? or just really healthy?

oh, and she wanted me to show you her pretty toes :)

poor girl got her momma's chubby feet
anyway, tomorrow is the weekend [and birds of a feather] so daddy will be taking over and doing lots of fun stuff with her. he's way more creative than i am when it comes to these activities. he's much better at following through with it too [he'll tell you it's because he has ADD and always has to be doing something].

  1. love those baby toes. how sweet. and your lunch looked really yummy! kids think eating outside on any kind of blanket is so special, for some reason. isn't that funny??

to wipe away your yelling

one of my favorite things to do in december is to drive around to see the lights. our neighborhood is huge, and we have some seriously awesome houses. one of them is our next-door neighbor, so we don't have to look very far it we don't want to. but at least five or six times in december i would stick the girls in the car and drive around our neighborhood to spot the best-decorated houses. one particular evening, as we were driving, i asked my three-year old if she remembered what was so special about Christmas. "it's when Jesus came to see all my presents!" that's when you know you're doing a good job, right? yeah, so i gently reminded her that Jesus came, in fact, to wipe away our sins. after a thirty second pause, she wondered out loud: "He came to wipe away your yelling?" straight.to.the.heart. "Because when you yell, that's your sin. and when i don't listen to you, that's my sin." yes, right again. i found
